Norma kamali gives fashion 2.0 awards keynote address

The future is here and it is online!

My mobile device is my best friend and while it won’t take the place of my guy or my doggie, Zeke, all three can be found in my bed each night. My love of technology and fashion made last night's Fashion 2.0 Awards a fun event for me. What an honor it was for Style Coalition founder Yuli Ziv to invite me to give the keynote speech at the event.

The Fashion 2.0 Awards in the SVA Theater was filled with an audience with true passion for fashion. The raw energy in the room was that of a group of people who are excited about discovering a new world for themselves in fashion and technology. They know they are pioneers and the leaders of the future in how people shop for fashion and how they communicate with each other before they do. In this world, there is no fashion hierarchy saying what is in or out, only passionate specialists who enjoy being part of a community that is both inclusive and democratic.

Everyone wonders what happened to the malls and why no one is in the stores... Well, retail starts first with a social experience that involves recommendations, smart comparison shopping, evaluating virtually, and then shopping online with service, service, service so ultimately we are empowered.

I am excited about all of the opportunities we have in front of us in this age of technology and the merging of fashion into this world.

Next week, I will launch my online only collection, KamaliKulture.com, timeless styles, all under $100. The sizes are 2-18 and it includes Jersey dresses, suiting, swimwer and then follows up with shoes and sleepwear, lounge and more...

This is the most exciting project of my life. KamaliKulture is a collection I wear, and my customers wear, and it is meant to be democratic, universal, and global. It is presented t women who have great style and no budget or a a big budget and no style or any variation of that combo.

KamaliKulture is for women who want to be a part of the future; It is here now, and the future is online.

Some designers, of course, have been influencing fashion for decades. Norma Kamali pioneered the sleeping bag coat in the mid 1970’s, inspiring legions of puffer coats that followed, She again shook up the fashion world with a collection for Wal-Mart in the 2000s. This season, Ms. Kamali is introducing a collection that she calls KamaliKulture. It’s the same career classics she did for the mass discounter, but designs are sold on Amazon and Zappos in addition to her own online store. All items will be priced under $100 and produced in sizes 2 to 18. “If people aren’t shopping at malls, where are they shopping?” Ms. Kamali posits. “It’s what’s happening.”

KAMALIKULTURE all styles under $100

I am very excited to share my dream come true of presenting a collection of timeless styles under $100 available on the internet. The styles I have chosen are not watered down versions of the OMO collection, but a collection of styles that everyone needs to have in their wardrobe.

Everyone needs timeless styles: jersey dresses that are a go-to for family functions, to school events for the kids, and for work and dinner dates. Classic suiting that is not super styled but so well-fitting and simply elegant that the individual components will work back to the most fashion forward styles or simple jeans and a tee shirt. Most of all it is a line I wear and my customers can enjoy. All the women that look at fashion skeptically when a budget is more important, can have fun with this collection.
